APPLICANT LISTS MAY BE SCREENED MORE THAN ONCE. This position is part of the Northwest Region Public Health Division within the NMDOH. The position is located in Albuquerque at the Midtown Public Health Office. Why does the job exist?The Nursing Supervisor manages the nursing staff who provide home visits to families with newborns, as well as the administrative staff who support the program. The goal of Family Connects home visits is to support and assess family needs in 12 domains of physical and psychosocial well-being and facilitate referrals and connections to community agencies to support families in these areas. The Director will direct the team of clinical and non-clinical staff in order to schedule, visit, and support families in the community using the evidence-based Family Connects home visiting protocol. Ability to communicate effectively with others is essential. Experience in maternal / child health, home visiting, and / or lactation education preferred. Proficiency in Spanish desired. How does it get done?1. Become fully trained in the Family Connects home visiting protocol as stated in the current program implementation manual. Thiswill initially include trips to Durham for observations, training, and ¿certification.¿2. Assist in training and evaluating new staff in the Family Connects model, eventually being responsible for certification and fidelityof all staff to the protocol.3. Track visiting rates and nurses¿ fidelity to the home visiting protocol through the use of computer-generated reports and dyadicsupervisory home visits.4. Provide group / peer and reflective supervision to program clinical staff.5. Communicate regularly with county health directors and other local partners with updates on the progress of the program.6. Coordinate assignments to the nurses to provide home visiting service to the target region.7. Coordinate staff meetings for case review and in-service training.8. Supervise nursing and non-clinical support staff in all program functions. The Director will also perform home visits.9. Help establish a parent recruitment protocol utilizing non-clinical program support workers. These efforts may include visitingprenatal care clinics, doctors¿ offices, and birthing hospitals and / or making calls based on birth records.10. Be open and flexible in establishing a new program with many unknowns in a new community with infrastructure challenges. Who are the customers?The customers are New Mexicans, All caregivers, newborns and community partners that work to support families. Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for this position must possess and maintain a current New Mexico Registered Nurse license or be eligible forlicensure in accordance with Nursing Practice Act 361-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16-21-1 through 61-12-20 NMAC asapplicable. The ideal candidate has experience : Managing nursing staff.Is an independent thinker, decision maker and self-starter. Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures.Specifically, the delivery of care per standing orders and protocols. referred skills include (a) Spanish language proficiency, (b) clinicalexperience related to domestic violence, substance abuse and / or depression, (c) three or more years of experience in child / maternalhealth, social work, or other related field, and (e) Certified Lactation Educator or Consultant.Ensuring compliance with laboratory and pharmacy regulations.3. Ability to work in a team with clinical and non-clinical staff.4. Ability to work with nurse manager to implement a practice improvement and clinical development plans.5. Ability to work on weekends, as required6. Proficient and comfortable using laptops as part of in-home assessment and intervention.7. Must maintain current CPR certification.The Nursing Supervisor should be proficient in performing and providing supervisory guidance for the following home visiting nurseactivities : 1. Keep records of client observations and activities as required. Document information for family assessments and programevaluation. Documentation should be completed in compliance with state guidelines, ideally within 24 hours of the encounter.2. Provide a health and physical assessment of mother and baby in the home to determine well being.3. Assess risk factors for family, including depression, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Exercise clinical skills in appraisingsituations and making decisions.4. Establish a trusting relationship with families during in-home visits and engage the family to establish a family support plan withgoals, objectives, and activities that address family strengths and needs.5. Assist parents in making appointments for doctors, social service agencies, etc. Act as a liaison between families and othercommunity agencies, serving as family advocate as required.6. Work with team to ensure appropriate referrals and connections to community resources as needed. Identify gaps in communityservices that may be addressed by local partners.7. Apply principles of reflective supervision for clinical staff support.8. Apply working knowledge of parent-child interaction, child-maternal health, child development, and child abuse / neglect to helpfamilies improve parenting skills, increase parenting supports, reduce stress, and address needs of parents; assist in creating ahealth plan for entire family.9. Respond to client needs through flexible scheduling of home visits. Apply effective time-management skills, organization, andmultitasking skills. Minimum QualificationMust possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and five (5) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Active New Mexico Registered Nurse license and CPR for Healthcare Professional Working ConditionsWork is performed in a public health office clinic, and on occasion at auxiliary or community sites with potential for exposure to communicable diseases. Work is performed in an office with computer usage and exposure to visual display terminals, standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations many of whom do not speak the English language. Occasional work outside of normal work schedule to attend and supervise community initiatives. Occasional travel outside of 35 miles or more.
