What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Associate II position at State of North Carolina?

This is an Anticipated Vacancy: Â This position is located at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro/Wayne County. This is 1 of 2 positions that perform all of the mailroom duties for the facility processing both incoming and outgoing mail for staff and inmates. The mailroom positions are responsible for picking up inmate funds from Intake and Operations as well as all outgoing mail for the facility, ensuring policies & procedures are followed. The mailroom will be trained on inmate allowed publications and will follow memos/policy on contraband, etc. The mailroom positions will make trips to the US Post Office daily Monday - Friday, except Holidays to receive facility mail, pick up courier mail from Cherry Hospital and will distribute according to policy. The mailroom positions will handle incoming inmate funds and enter the deposit batches into the OPUS system to the inmate Trust Fund accounts. The mailroom positions will keep inventory of indigent stamps, will handle inmate legal mail, inmate personal property boxes, etc. The mailroom positions must be able to work well with others and be able to handle daily contact with the general public via direct contact or telephone and be able to work with numerous interruptions. Should be able to prioritize work according to the needs of the facility. Staff are expected to act in a courteous and professional manner at all times both to the public and co-workers. The mailroom positions are expected to keep Management aware of issues with incoming/outgoing mail and are expected to maintain confidentiality at all times. The mailroom positions involve the daily use of the following office equipment: telephone, computer, postage meter, postal scales, calculator, shredder, copy machine, fax machine. The mailroom positions must have a valid NC driver license and be able to operate a state vehicle, (car, truck or van) in all types of weather, including in climate weather. The mailroom positions are expected to follow instructions from Management regarding reporting to work during times of in climate weather. The mailroom positions must be able to walk down on the facility, inside the prison fence, and must be able to at times lift heavy boxes. Boxes from the US Post Office and/or boxes of inmate medical records received through the courier mail at Cherry Hospital could weigh up to approximately 70 pounds at times. The position will receive supervision through the Administrative Sergeant as well as the Administrative Officer and Facility Wardens. This position performs any additional clerical work as assigned by supervisory staff. This position will have daily contact with incarcerated individuals and must be able to work around incarcerated individuals who could become violent and/or verbally abusive and be able to handle the stress of that. This position will work and rotate with the other mailroom position an 8-hour shift between the hours of 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. This position will take at least a 30-minute lunch break. Hours are subject to change.Â

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits

As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range will be$31,200 - $49,340.

The salary grade for this position is NC02 (Salary Range: $31,200 - $49,340). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
