Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for all aspects concerning caseload of offenders at a medium custody correctional facility. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Carrying a caseload of offenders, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answer and follow up on offender questions and problems.
  • Making recommendations to classification committee.
  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation.
  • Transition planning and coordinating.
  • Planning and coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.

As of January 01, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 01, 2025.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits

The salary grade for this position is NC07.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.


About Nash Correctional Institution: 

Nash Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Nashville, Nash County NC.  It houses approximately 796 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to two Correction Enterprises operations located on site: the Optical Plant and the Print Plant. The Optical Plant manufactures eyeglasses for customers such as Medicaid and the Division of Services for the Blind. The Print Plant is a full-service print shop dedicated to printing services for state government agencies, public school systems, state community colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possessALLof the following:


  1. Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Associates degree in criminal justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
