Monday- Friday, 40 hours per week

 

Position: Safety & Risk Management and Workers’ Compensation Unit Intern

Location: 313 Chapanoke Road, Raleigh, NC.

Internship Duration: 10-week internship (May 27-August 1, 2025)

 

About the Internship: Join a team of dedicated professionals in the Safety & Risk Management and Workers’ Compensation Unit at NCDOT. This internship offers hands-on experience in occupational safety, employee well-being, and workers’ compensation processes. You’ll gain valuable insights into the role of safety and risk management in a large organization, working closely with professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Focus Areas:

  • Business operations in safety and risk management
  • Drug and alcohol programs for workplace compliance
  • Employee safety initiatives and training
  • Workers’ compensation processes and support

Ideal Candidate: We’re seeking a proactive individual pursuing studies in Business, Occupational Safety & Health, or related fields. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for workplace safety are essential. Experience or coursework in safety or risk management is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with projects aimed at improving safety protocols and organizational workflows
  • Support the Workers' Compensation Unit with case management and reporting
  • Conduct research and compile data for safety-related initiatives
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and mitigate risks
  • Participate in daily feedback sessions and Q&A opportunities with the supervisor

  • Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors, masters, or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) within the past three years.
  • 24 credit hours completed.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
