Cherry Hospital, an accredited State Psychiatric Hospital serving the eastern region of North Carolina, is recruiting a permanent full-time Physician Extender (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner). Our 24-hour in-patient facility serves adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The position is responsible for performing history and physicals of patients on admission, annual physicals, dictate discharge summaries, sick call on unit assigned, suture minor lacerations, prescribe medications and order lab work. Works 8 hour shifts Monday thru Friday with some extended work (call hours) on a rotating basis required.

Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices and developments in the field of medicine and the techniques involved.
Knowledge of biological, social, and psychological developmental processes at all ages.
- Skill in treating and diagnosing a variety of diseases and injuries.
Ability to assess and interpret laboratory results, clinical data and information relative to the patient’s condition.
Ability to compile clear and concise notes for patient's charts and to make oral presentations of cases in medical conferences.
Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board
OR
approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
“A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
