This position is for a Transportation Worker Ill which will be located in the Division 11 Roadside Environmental Unit in Wilkes County. This Unit is responsible for vegetation management, development and monitoring of contracts, and permitting to the private sector. This Unit is also responsible for ensuring all work adheres to the 1973 Sedimentation Pollution Control Act, the NC Department of Agriculture Pesticide Division's regulations, OSHA and all other Federal, State or Local laws and ordinances governing the work involved, installation and maintenance of Storm water BM P's. Position is responsible for inspection of landscape enhancement projects, mowing contracts, and Plant Bed Maintenance contracts. Position also coordinates Selective Vegetation Removal program with outdoor advertising companies, business owners and contractors. This includes permit and fee processing, policy interpretation and inspection of contracted work. Experience in pesticide applications. This position is responsible for ensuring all work performed on NCDOT Right of Way is performed according to standard procedures in a safe manner.

Ability to operate assigned equipment efficiently and safely. Experience in applications of pesticides, seeding operations, plant bed installations and maintenance. Ability to follow, understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Must be able to keep accurate records of work accomplished. Ability to safely operate a State vehicle. Ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal skills to express routing or simple technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized manner. May require working during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and times of emergency. Snow and ice operations may be required. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Safety toe footwear is required. A Class ''A:.' CDL ("N" endorsement preferred) will be required within 360 days of employment or employment. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.

- Knowledge of vegetation management including but not limited to shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc using sound horticultural practices
- Experience in applying herbicides to control weeds and brush
- Must have a NC Pesticide Operator's License with an endorsement in Ornamentals & Turf with the ability to obtain Right of Way endorsement within 60 days
- Experience in operation of pesticide applicator, truck, tractors, and utility vehicles
- Demonstrated ability overseeing and managing projects and project schedules
