Posting is for two Transportation Worker IV Positions located in Montgomery County Maintenance. Â Positions 60020427 and 60020442 will be filled from this posting. You only have to apply once to be considered for both positions. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside feature. Â Position will also serve as lead worker of a highway maintenance crew. Â Work includes, but is not limited to, installation of traffic & erosion control devices, clearing of right of way, roadway grading, machining unpaved roads, pavement repair, pipe installation or other drainage tasks, inspecting contract work and monitoring manual tasks performed. Position will operate various pieces of equipment including bulldozer, excavator, backhoe, skid steer, tandem dump truck, front end loader, tractor trailer, asphalt maintainer, motor grader, roller, and additional pieces of heavy equipment as needed. Employee in this position is expected to perform assigned tasks and follow oral and written instructions as directed by supervisor. Â Work requires ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and exposure to extreme temperature conditions. Â Work may include lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly and exerting up 100lbs of force occasionally. Â Position is subject to emergency call back and may require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following

• Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety & NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices
• Experience in one of the following: Â shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation or asphalt patching
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and to train others in equipment operations as well as directing the daily activities of a work crew
• Experience in snow and ice removal operations
• Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures.
  
  

Additional Expectations: The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License. Â Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol. Safety toe footwear required.
