Primary Purpose of this Position:
Do you enjoy providing IT technical support to computer users? Would you like to work at a fun place? The North Carolina Zoo is seeking a full-time onsite position within its IT Department. The primary purpose of the position is to respond to and provide professional level technical support for software system maintenance, PCI compliance issues, hardware installations, troubleshooting, enhancements, planning, and user-requested changes for the North Carolina Zoo. The selected candidate will address approximately 75 Point of Sale Units, 200 user workstations and over 1000 other network devices over the Zoo's 500 developed acre facility. Responsibilities include developing and installing new systems in a variety of locations and assisting in all aspects of personal computers, printers, and operating systems; participating as project team members for business unit systems that may be multifaceted; and managing timelines and resources, and assisting with implementation efforts to completion.

  • To be on-call for afterhours, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis
  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, negotiate uneven outdoor terrain on foot, and drive motor vehicles at day and night

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

  • Demonstrated experience with computer hardware which may include Cisco networking, VPNs, telecommunications, office software and/or systems
  • Proven experience supporting and troubleshooting NAS/SAN systems
  • Proven knowledge of Active Directory, PowerShell, Group Policy and/or other Windows Server administration tools
  • Proven experience with SQL or other relevant database languages including troubleshooting both point of sale and other database systems
  • Proven knowledge of cabling standards including terminating Ethernet, phone, and other cables as required

Management Preference:
  • Ability to prioritize workflow and organize diverse material, handle multiple, competing and changing priorities, identify and understand reoccurring problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to integrate knowledge and skills from a range of technologies to address work assignments and problems of moderate to high complexity
  • Ability to independently resolve problems through advanced system analysis and troubleshooting procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate solutions to technicians, analyst, other specialists, and other affected personnel to aid their future solving ability

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution
AND
one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role;
OR
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
AND
three years of experience in the
field of technology related to the position's role;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and
experience.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
