    The North Carolina Department of Administration (NCDOA), Division of Surplus, is seeking an organized, motivated, and skilled Administrative Specialist I position (working title : Warehouse Floor Supervisor) with our State Surplus Property division. This division offers surplus property received from state agencies and the University System to other state agencies in need, and / or sells to qualifying non-profit organizations and the public. This position serves as warehouse floor supervisor, as a lead worker and primary resource for the warehouse staff.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist public customers with questions regarding surplus items
  • Assist agencies and customers with loading and unloading
  • Oversee processes of warehouse staff specific assignments
  • Assure all items are strategically placed within the warehouse for the best use of warehouse space and customer accessibility
  • Assure all inventory is priced and properly tagged for tracking
  • Additional duties as assigned

    The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to : acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work with deadlines in a busy, fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Experience using safe warehousing procedures and practices
  • Experience with inventory record keeping methods
  • MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE :

  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other warehouse equipment
  • Employee has a clean driving record with no more than 1 minor infraction within the last 5 years.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Valid NC Driver's license. Out of State applicants must have a valid Driver's License or acquire a NC Driver's License within 90 days of hire.
  • Work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Work is performed outdoors and in warehouses that are not climate controlled. Must be able work in temperature extremes.
  • Employees are required to wear uniforms & use safety equipment provided by the State.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
