About Us
The objective of the Local Government Services (LGS) Division is to serve as a consulting and fiscal advisory group to all government agencies including villages, townships, school districts and other political subdivisions. As a Project Accountant with LGS you will provide financial services including forecasting, reconstruction of financial records, and financial analysis to Ohio’s local governments in or within close proximity to Muskingum, Fairfield, Licking, Guernsey, Noble, Morgan and Perry Counties.
What You’ll Do
Assist higher level LGS employees in providing local government services (e.g., financial forecast, GAAP conversion assistance, reconciliations and reconstruction of financial records, fiscal emergency analysis, performance audits, feasibility studies, etc.) to local governments by:
- Gathering necessary financial information, preparing work papers and applying assigned local government services procedures and techniques to specific accounts and records of clients.
- Reviewing completed work with higher level LGS employees to determine compliance with local government services procedures and techniques as adopted by the Auditor of State.
- Giving assistance in the preparation of local government services reports and other work products under the direction of higher level LGS employees; meeting with local government officials to discuss reports, always accompanied by higher level LGS employees.
- Aiding in the study and documentation of transaction cycles and accounting procedures, assisting clients in determining requirements of laws and regulations and preparing necessary working papers and schedules to increase familiarity with local government services programs, report format, and accounting systems of clients.

Educational and Capability Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university (Accounting preferred)
Ø OR successful completion of at least 16 semester hours or equivalent in accounting or related field from an accredited college, university, trade, technical or vocational school beyond high school level
Ø OR possess at least three years’ experience in accounting or related field
- Knowledge of Microsoft office products preferred (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Travel to Audit Site Work Locations
