Salary Range: $5,180.00 - $7,544.00 The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard. You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position. The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for a Firefighter. This is a permanent full-time state position located at the Portland Air National Guard base in Portland, Oregon. This position is represented by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1660 Union. NOTE: This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. What you will be doing: The Fire Fighter acts as a member of a crew, under the leadership of a Lieutenant, Fire Captain, or Fire Chief to suppress fires and rescue personnel from accident sites. This position is part of the Shift “Team”; in that the individual must be fully competent in the operation of every vehicle and piece of equipment, have complete knowledge of all applicable department policies, rules, regulations and to support both the civilian and military operations. Working Conditions: Individual works as assigned, from a 40-hour work week to a rotating shift of 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty or other hours as directed by management, is subject to recall when off duty to respond to emergencies and attend department meeting as determined by management. Individual is subject to work on holidays and weekends. Work is performed on an active airfield and is subject to work in and around aircraft carrying hazardous and dangerous cargo such as chemicals, explosives, special and conventional weapons, munitions, thousands of gallons of fuel, and large numbers of passengers in addition to weapons storage areas, large POL tank storage areas, large aircraft maintenance/fuel cell maintenance facilities with hangered aircraft. WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY: MUST possess: Firefighter I -AND- Firefighter II -AND- Airport Firefighter NOTE: Certifications from any source: DOD, ProBoard, DPSST, IFSAC or any state certified entity. MUST achieve the following DOD certifications within 12 months of hire: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic or higher Medical Certification – Issued by the State of Oregon or the National Registry only; DOD Certifications: Haz Mat Awareness Haz Mat Operations Driver/Operator Pumper Driver/Operator ARFF Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply Telecommunicator I Telecommunicator II National Incident Management System (NIMS) NOTE: You MUST attach copies of all certifications under Resume/Cover Letter section to receive credit. If certifications are not attached, you may not move forward in the process. NOTE: Preference will be given to those who already possess the above DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard certifications. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification completed within the past 12 months from the date this announcement is scheduled to close (You MUST attach a copy of your completed certification under Resume/Cover Letter section to receive credit) Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED); Must be at least 18 years old; NOTE: If applying from out of state, please be prepared to provide a 3 year driving abstract from your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Conditions of Employment: The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DoD SECRET security clearance and eligibility to obtain a USAF Restricted Area Badge. Duties and responsibilities include unescorted access to restricted areas that may contain classified equipment or materials up to secret level. To retain employment incumbent must possess or be able to possess and maintain a favorable completed National Agency Check in order to receive and retain an AF Form 1199 restricted area badge and obtain and maintain AF Form 2293, U.S. Air Force Motor Vehicle Identification Card. Following a job offer, must meet and maintain NFPA Standard 1582, Medical Requirements for Firefighters, as determined by a physical examination (annually). An Assessment Test will be conducted, to include the following: Written Test Oral Interviews *Date and time will be provided to qualified candidates moving forward in the process.
