THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is seeking an individual to administer standardized tests aimed at assessing the skills and qualifications of applicants for Non-Commercial Driver Licenses. This role involves evaluating both the physical and driving capabilities of candidates, as well as inspecting vehicles to ensure they meet the required safety standards. The position entails direct interaction with customers, allowing for both independent work and collaboration within a team environment, while reporting directly to the Driver License Center Supervisor.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting standardized on-road assessments to assess the skills and competencies of applicants seeking a Non-Commercial Driver License, ensuring that the process is carried out safely and with courtesy. You will evaluate the physical condition and driving qualifications of each applicant, as well as the mechanical state of their vehicles, adhering to established guidelines and standards. Prior to administering driving tests, you will perform thorough pre-trip inspections of the vehicles, checking for inspection stickers, operational lights, windshield wipers, and other essential mechanical features to guarantee safety and confirm the applicant's familiarity with vehicle controls. Additionally, you will review applications, registrations, and permits to identify any potential irregularities or fraudulent activities. You will also administer both Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Non-CDL knowledge examinations, which assess applicants' understanding of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs, while evaluating their practical driving skills and adherence to road rules. Furthermore, you will conduct vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments, to ensure that applicants meet the necessary visual standards for safe driving.

Work Schedule and Additional Information :
- Full-time employment, 40 - hour work week.
- Work hours are 8 : 15 AM to 4 : 45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and Travel may be required.
- Salary : In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
