GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIESIn the Department of Environmental Management to be engaged in the enforcement of a variety of state laws pertaining to the protection and conservation of the natural resources of the state; to engage in enforcement of the state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the registration, numbering, equipping and operating of motorboats in the tidal and non-tidal waters of the state; to engage in various activities involved in the management of the fish, game and natural resources of the state; to work directly under the supervision of Environmental Police Officers as directed by the Environmental Police Officers as directed by the Environmental Police Officer III in charge; and to related work as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the general supervision of an Environmental Police Officer III from whom assignments and instructions are received; work is reviewed for conformance to state and federal laws, and department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as state and federal law. SUPERVISION EXERCISEDSupervises and reviews the work assigned to Environmental Police Officers for conformance to state and federal laws, and department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
In the Department of Environmental Management to be engaged in the enforcement of a variety of state laws pertaining to the protection and conservation of the natural resources of the state; to engage in enforcement of the state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the registration, numbering, equipping and operating of motorboats in the tidal and non-tidal waters of the state; to engage in various activities involved in the management of the fish, game and natural resources of the state; to work directly under the supervision of Environmental Police Officers as directed by the Environmental Police Officers as directed by the Environmental Police Officer III in charge. To participate in and supervise, as delegated by the Environmental Police Officer III in charge, the work performed by Environmental Police Officers engaged in the following: As assigned, on foot, by boat, or by vehicle to patrol the fields, woodlands, streams, ponds, lakes, and the tidal waters of the state for the purpose of enforcing a variety of state and federal laws pertaining to: fish, game and shellfish; boating safety including the registration, numbering, equipping and operation of motorboats in such waters; federal migratory birds laws and related rules and regulations; invertebrates and plants; fresh water wetlands, dams and resources; solid and hazardous waste transportation, storage and disposal and any other laws regarding solid and/or hazardous wastes; water and air pollution and open burning; prevention and suppression of forest fires; agriculture, farmland and pest control; the opening and closing of areas within the coastal waters to the taking of any and all types of fish, lobsters and shellfish; the improvement of cover and habitat for wildlife; to stock and release birds, fish and other wildlife or marine species related to conservation work; to make wildlife or marine species related to conservation work; to make wildlife population studies; investigate complaints relative to damages caused by wildlife and recommending control measures; to make investigations of unusual freshwater fishing conditions; and erect and maintain traps, duck nests, fences, sighs, etc. To participate in and supervise the performance of a variety of management tasks in a fish, shellfish, and wildlife conservation program such as: trapping and redistributing of game; to salvage and transfer game fish from ponds, lakes, and streams and to coordinate and oversee the transplanting of shellfish and to supervise the harvesting of the transplanted shellfish by commercial fishermen. To enforce criminal and motor vehicle laws and code in Parks, Beaches, Management Areas, and other areas where jurisdiction allows. As assigned, on foot, by boat or by vehicle to patrol state parks, management areas and game preserves for the enforcement of all state laws, rules, and regulations. To arrest without warrant and on view any person found violating the laws, rules, and regulations of the state and to investigate complaints, issue warnings, execute all warrants, serve subpoenas, to prepare summonses, arraign violators of fish, game shellfish, and/or boating laws. To operate an inboard or outboard power boat on tide waters or in the inland lakes and ponds for the purpose of apprehending violators of fish, game, shellfish, and/or boating laws. To carry firearms or other weapons, concealed or otherwise, in the course of and in the performance of required duties and responsibilities. To operate such mobile two-way radios as may be required in the performance of the above duties. To prepare detailed reports of activities as required by the State and United States Coast Guard; and when necessary conduct detailed investigations. To engage in search and rescue operations and conduct boating accident and marine larceny investigations as required. To engage in the promotion of safety in the operation of motorboats and related water sports programs, and to instruct boating safety education courses. To assist at and participate in conservation meetings, hunter safety courses, exhibits and field trails. To represent the Division at schools, sports club meetings, boat shows, and various other public forums. To distribute hunting and fishing license forms to the clerks of the cities and towns and to special agents, and to give instructions in the proper procedures for the recording, reporting, and issuing of such licenses. To do related work as required.
