What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Assistant - Office of Appellate Defense position at State of South Carolina?
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT: OFFICE OF APPELLATE DEFENSE
Under the supervision of the Administrative Coordinator, perform legal secretarial and administrative duties including, but not limited to:
- Compose and prepare correspondence, documents, and other materials as assigned by respective attorneys.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulations and formats required for legal documents.
- Proofread documents to verify the accuracy and completeness of citations and references for legal correspondence and documents.
- Maintain calendars for respective attorneys of scheduled appointments, conferences and hearings.
- Maintain calendars for deadlines to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals for filings of pleadings.
- Must be completely familiar with time requirements set on each case by the Courts and take full responsibility for informing designated attorneys of these deadlines.
- Must give adequate notice to the attorney in order to ensure completion of filings before the applicable deadlines.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment, including computer word processing software and case management database.
- Maintain daily tickler systems and complete set-up and maintenance of filing systems for assigned cases.
- Communicate with the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
- High school diploma
- A valid drivers license
- Associate's Degree or Technical College Degree in Secretarial Science, Legal Administrative Assistant, or similar field
- Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and legal documents
- Work experience in a law office or other legal environment
- Command of the English language with strong comprehension and writing skills
- Proficient keyboarding skills
- Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
