This position is located in the Driver Services Unit, at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, SC.
Responsibilities of the Driver Services Specialist III
- Responsible for assisting State-to-State (S2S) Helpdesk with the maintenance of SC credential pointers by manually performing multiple and various SPEXS transactions such as change state of record, add/delete driver, update, and others.
- Responsible for assisting with duplicate pointer resolution efforts of the S2S helpdesk. Research and analyze appropriate customer data to determine if a possible duplicate is a true match and utilize appropriate SPEXS transactions to resolve possible or actual duplicate pointers.
- Responsible for assisting customers of the S2S Helpdesk, including internal and external customers such as staff from other SCDMV offices and DMV's in other states, utilizing a web-based portal, email, and phone. Maintain a record of all requests processed.
- Process error reports for S2S Helpdesk. Maintain log of errors processed. Assist with reviewing and maintaining customer records to ensure accuracy of data as needed.
- Process driver history received during change state of record according to current and future SPEXS and departmental procedures.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor and managers. Assists others as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- A high school diploma. Related clerical experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.
Agency Requirements
- Must complete a nationwide criminal background check to include finger printing.

- Ability to deal effectively with the public in disseminating and obtaining information.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; grammatical rules clerical formats and/or journalistic principles.
- Knowledge of behavioral characteristics of the physically or mentally challenged.
- Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying department policies and procedures.
- Ability to coordinate and work well with others.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate effectiveness of administrative/clerical procedures.
- Must be able to type and be proficient with PC. Must have knowledge of motor vehicles laws and regulations.
- Works under general supervision.
- Routine and non-routine correspondence is completed by employee independently.
- Complex and questionable duties are at the discretion of the supervisor.
- Ability to speak and hear with clarity, to bend and lift, and must have good eye and hand coordination.
- Work is performed in a climate controlled office setting with light background noise.
- A high school diploma plus two (2) years related job experience, or an associate's degree in Secretarial Science or other related field may be substituted for experience.
