The Sexually Violent Predator Unit seeks an attorney with previous trial experience to join our team to handle civil commitment cases brought pursuant to the South Carolina Sexually Violent Predator statute. The position is ideal for an attorney who strongly desires to be in the courtroom for circuit court hearings and jury/non-jury trials and enjoys a fast-paced environment. Under general supervision, your job responsibilities will include:
A Juris Doctorate degree.
Necessary Requirements: Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.

The Sexually Violent Predator Unit seeks an attorney with previous trial experience to join our team to handle civil commitment cases brought pursuant to the South Carolina Sexually Violent Predator statute. The position is ideal for an attorney who strongly desires to be in the courtroom for circuit court hearings and jury/non-jury trials and enjoys a fast-paced environment. Under general supervision, your job responsibilities will include:
- Review records and reports of individuals referred to the Sexually Violent Predator section by the Prosecution Review Committee.
- Drafts and files appropriate pleadings in cases referred by the Prosecution Review Committee.
- Represents the State in each pre-commitment stage of the sexually violent predator proceedings, including pre-commitment probable cause hearings, motion hearings, commitment trials, and appeals.
- Represents the State in each annual review of persons' commitment to the Sexually Violent Predator Treatment Program, including periodic review probable cause hearings, motion hearings, periodic review/release trials, and appeals.
- Complete other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Must be organized and be able to work independently in meeting deadlines.
- Operates dictation equipment; able to operate computer and/or Westlaw.
- Must be able to transport files to court.
- Uses the law library.
