Job Responsibilities
THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING.
ONLY CURRENT BUREAU OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES (BPS) OFFICERS WILL BE CONSIDERED.
Supervises the daily operations of the State Agency Support Division (SASD) and other areas under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Protective Services as defined by S.C. Code of Law, Section 23-6-90.
Serves as supervisor of the State Agency Support Division. Responsible for law enforcement support for state government employees working with the SC Education Lottery Commission, South Carolina Public Benefit Authority, and Department of Administration Division of Technology. Supervisor of all uniformed officers assigned to the State Agency Support Division.
Coordinates security for special functions, demonstrations, other activities at the SASD, and other areas under the jurisdiction of the Department, to include submitting written operations plans and after-action reports.
Coordinates special assignments to include providing security as requested for various state entities holding hearings, appeals, or special meetings where additional precautions are deemed appropriate.
Supervises the administrative duties of the SASD in accuracy of all reports, SCEIS time submissions, and leave requests to ensure compliance with the Department of Public Safety and Bureau of Protective Services' policy directives.
Performs other duties as directed by the Chief/Major/Captain of the Bureau of Protective Services relative to the security responsibilities of the agency, to include Division investigations for the Office of Professional Responsibility.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.
Agency Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and/or five (5) years of law enforcement experience, basic law enforcement certification, and permanent status as a Bureau of Protective Services Corporal.
Additional Requirements
Excellent command of BPS/DPS policies and procedures and knowledgeable of South Carolina Code of Laws; must also be knowledgeable of the Agency Support Division as well as other areas of the Bureau of Protective Services Department.
Employee must work with minimum supervision and must have the ability to exercise good judgement and discretion when necessary.
Must posses effective written and verbal communication skills; must be physically able to lift, bend and stand for prolonged periods of time; must be able to restrain individuals who may pose a threat to the Governor and other public officials, state employees, and the general public. This individual must also be able to perform these duties under all weather conditions.
