ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

- Attends disciplinary hearings scheduled before the Commission on Judicial Conduct, the Commission on Lawyer Conduct, and the Supreme Court. Sets up equipment and supplies necessary to produce record of hearing, records testimony, swears parties and witnesses, and marks exhibits at the hearing. Within 60 days after the hearing, types an accurate and timely verbatim transcript of the testimony presented at the hearing. Responsible for providing original record of proceedings to Commission or Supreme Court within prescribed time limits. Files the original transcript, including exhibits, with the Commission or the Supreme Court. Provides a copy of the transcript, including exhibits, to the parties in the case.
- Attends interviews of lawyers, judges, and witnesses that are conducted by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel in pending disciplinary matters. Sets up equipment and supplies necessary to produce record of interview, records testimony, swears parties and witnesses, and marks exhibits at the interview. Within 60 days after the interview, types an accurate and timely verbatim transcript of the testimony presented at the interview. Responsible for providing original record of interview to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel within prescribed time limits. Files the original transcript, including exhibits, with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel. Provides a copy of the transcript, including exhibits, to the parties in the case.
- Attends hearings scheduled before the Committee on Character and Fitness. Sets up equipment and supplies necessary to produce record of hearing, records testimony, swears parties and witnesses, and marks exhibits at the hearing. As soon as possible after the hearing, types an accurate and timely verbatim transcript of the testimony presented at the hearing. Responsible for providing original record of proceedings to the Committee on Character and Fitness within prescribed time limits. Files the original transcript, including exhibits, with the Committee on Character and Fitness. Provides a copy of the transcript, including exhibits, to the parties in the case.
- Secures and preserves preserves notes, tape recordings, and transcripts in accordance with procedures of the Office of Commission Counsel.
- If unavailable for an interview or hearing described in #1 and #2., responsible for communicating with and scheduling contract court reporter to attend the interview or hearing on his/her behalf to perform job duties described in #1 and #2.
- Adheres to common principles of professionalism to include being punctual and prepared; dressed in accordance with SCJB's dress code; being courteous and civil when interacting with the justices, counsel, parties, commission/committee members, clerk's staff, and the public; remaining a neutral observer; refraining from causing disruptions to the proceedings; and exercising the highest levels of professional integrity in the disposition of the job responsibilities. Must be able to work independently, exercising good judgement and discretion.
- Assists justices, commission/committee members, and court personnel with reasonable requests while working in and outside of the courtroom.
- Attends meetings or training sessions as required.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Commission Counsel, including special assignments for other Branch divisions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)
- High School Diploma
- Verified current credentials as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) by the National Court Reporters Association or Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR or CM) by the National Verbatim Reporters Associations
- Two (2) years of court reporting experience, with a thorough knowledge of hearing procedures and production of transcripts.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
- Thorough knowledge of legal terminology and considerable knowledge of hearing procedures and preparation of complex legal records preferred. Knowledge of modern court reporting technology and equipment. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Must possess excellent transcription, time management and listening skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work independently. Ability to deal with others in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, court personnel, and the general public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Punctual, organized and able to work efficiently and independently in meeting deadlines. Ability to work well under pressure. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality. Capable of prioritizing work while meeting established deadlines. Must have dependable transportation as this position may require occasional statewide travel, with rare overnight travel.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)
- Associates degree or higher from an approved school of court reporting institution and two (2) or more years of court reporting experience with a thorough knowledge of hearing procedures and production of transcripts.

Salary : $69,417
