Job Responsibilities

The person plays a vital role in evaluating and analyzing data related to student performance and is responsible for interpreting results of statewide summative assessments and making recommendations based on the findings. The person must have a solid background in research methods and statistical analysis, as well as excellent communication skills. The person in this position will coordinate and monitor assigned projects for K-12 student assessments, such as evaluating test materials for psychometric qualities (e.g., test forms and score report forms); conduct item analysis; draw samples; and conduct, coordinate, and / or monitor standard setting, equating, linking, and calibration in accordance with the purpose(s) of the assessments and in accordance with accepted standards for psychometric theory, research, and practice. Work with South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) staff and contractors in monitoring the scoring and reporting of statewide tests. Use Statistical Analysis System (SAS) programming to conduct quality control checks on state and district test data files; match data sets; and generate state assessment statistics by state, district, school, and subgroups for the SCDE's public web pages. Create, organize, and file routine and technical documentation for state assessment programs. Conduct SCDE research studies as assigned. Serve as a resource person to other offices as assigned. Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
This position is located in the Office of Assessment and Standards.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree and experience in education, management, or business.
Preferred Qualifications
A master's degree or Ph.D. in measurement and statistics and five (5) years' experience in education, management, or business.
