JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, performs duties in food services to include food preparation, cooking, serving and delivering meals inside the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice facilities. Cleans assigned areas of food services to meet guidelines and standards set by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). Provide excellent customer service and continually assessing performance based on customer feedback.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizes storage, preparation and serving of food and the maintenance of food service equipment and facilities.
Follows all policy and procedures that guides specific work and general state guidelines that are required of all state employees.
Serves portions of food that meet the nutritional requirements of the national School Food Service Program.
Inspects dry stores and refrigerated food to ensure optimum storage conditions.
After each meal, cleans assigned section in the food service area to meet guidelines and standards set by DHEC; specifically, machinery, serving equipment and utensils, pots and pan sink, dishes, dishwashing machine, floors, coolers, and freezers.
Operates the following equipment: mixer, can opener, meat slicer, dishwashing machine, and ovens.
Follow work schedules and training programs.
Demonstrates correct techniques of food preparation for maximum palatability and appearance and minimum waste.
Work in the presence and guide the work of adult inmates.
Performs other related job duties.
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of storage, preparation and service of various food products.
Knowledge of principles and procedures of food service materials and appliances used in a kitchen/bakery.
Knowledge of sanitary and safety procedures pertaining to kitchen operation and/or general food preparation and service.
Ability to maintain food service records and prepare written and digital reports.
General knowledge and skill level with Microsoft Office products.
Must complete Agency's Defensive Driving Course with a passing grade.
Essential Position: This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
Exposure to hazardous equipment, extreme heat and freezing temperatures.
