What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance Technician - Shipfitter (60024483) position at State of South Carolina?
The purpose of the General Maintenance Technician - Shipfitter is to perform required, planned, and corrective maintenance and repairs to museum ships, buildings, grounds, and piers. These repairs could be structural such as hull or internal bulkhead repair, museum exhibit construction, or general industry repairs on the property. The job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs maintenance and repair tasks that require shipyard type repair skills such as welding, oxyacetylene cutting, plasma cutting, grinding, preparing metals for welding, clean-up of slag and work area, and preparing for paint.
- Assists other craftsmen in the performance of their duties when directed by those appointed in charge.
- Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations required by the agency. Uses hand tools, safety equipment along with job knowledge and experience to carry out tasks to a successful conclusion.
- Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the agency.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma and trade experience directly related to the area of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be familiar with OSHA work standards.
Additional Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of, and experience with, welding, metal fabrication, and construction techniques using dissimilar materials.
- Knowledge of pertinent safety and environmental standards.
- Superior mechanical aptitude with tools and equipment used in normal museum job tasks as required.
- Skill in making emergency and general repairs and adjustments to equipment used.
- Ability to comprehend plans and specifications.
- Ability to use judgement and initiative to complete routine work without constant supervision.
