What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor, English (9 Month) position at State of South Carolina?
Teach English courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist department chair with administrative responsibilities. Teaching is primarily on the Giles campus but may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends or a combination.
- TEACHING PERFORMANCE – The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.
- INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.
- INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT – The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.
- STUDENT ADVISEMENT – The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.
- COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICES – The participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.
Master's degree in English or Master's degree in any discipline with at least 18 graduate credits of English.
Experience teaching in a community college setting and teaching dual credit students. Professional, collegial and ethical conduct, decisions and relationships are expected at all times.
