Job Responsibilities
This employee will be responsible for conducting activities related to routine management of wildlife habitats, public hunting programs, and wildlife populations within Region 1, Unit C (Cherokee, Laurens, Spartanburg, Union counties).
Job Duties Include
A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.
Preferred Qualifications
A working knowledge of agricultural machinery and tractor operation. Knowledge of various planting regimes, herbicide use, and fertilizer application. Ability to operate heavy equipment. Ability to conduct general maintenance on equipment such as tractors and implements. Knowledge of wildlife habitat management and ability to perform wildlife population surveys and collect data. Ability to conduct prescribed burns. Ability to work irregular hours including early mornings and late evenings. Ability to communicate effectively with other staff and the public. Knowledge of general wildlife techniques.

- Conducting agricultural operations including, but not limited to:
- planting, fertilization, herbicide application, mowing, and management of public dove fields, waterfowl areas, and wildlife openings within assigned counties.
- Conducting, assisting, and managing various types of special hunts.
- Assisting in the collection of data and biological specimens from assigned areas.
- Monitoring the waterfowl management area regarding water level and manipulations throughout the year.
- Erecting and monitoring wood duck nest boxes on WMA lands and providing recommendations regarding wood duck nest boxes on private lands.
- Conducting population surveys for various wildlife species.
- Conducting and assisting with trapping efforts for nuisance species as needed.
- Assisting in research efforts such as trapping and banding doves.
- Collecting and disseminating information for department programs (brochures, maps, etc.) to SCDNR information sites within assigned counties.
