This position serves as the Remedial Project Manager for the Bureau of Land and Waste Management. Under general supervision, performs site evaluation and screening activities associated with the investigation and cleanup of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. Performs technical reviews and project management duties. Provides field oversight and manages State contractors.
Job Responsibilities:- Examine and evaluate plans, specs, engineering reports, etc. for site investigation and cleanup actions at uncontrolled sites.
- Provide technical assistance to consultants, state and local governmental officials, and industrial representatives.
- Direct and oversee State contractors performing environmental response actions. Oversee responsible party contractors performing response actions.
- Prepare reports on response actions for submission to management. Enter site information in e-permitting.
- Perform project management activities related to site response actions. Under management direction, develop scopes of work and plan and coordinate site activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
- A bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineering and one year of related experience.
- A master's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineering.
- Ability to negotiate contracts with responsible parties.
- Ability to provide oversight of the assessment and cleanup of sites.
- Knowledge of environmental investigation and remediation techniques (preferably under CERCLA).
- Ability to analyze documents and data in files, draw conclusions, and summarize when necessary
- Demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office suite applications.
- Provide excellent customer service
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in a culturally competent manner.
- Occasional overnight travel
- Must have a valid driver's license, 10-year driving record that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to drive a state vehicle
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

- South Carolina Professional Geologist license or GIT license
