What are the responsibilities and job description for the S383 - MH Professional I - Counselor - FOCUS - Sptbg position at State of South Carolina?
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Spartanburg Office, 250 Dewey Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29303
Under limited supervision must provide culturally appropriate mental health treatment to assigned children, adolescents, and families at locations such as clients' homes, Eubanks Center in Spartanburg and to Spartanburg, Union & Cherokee MHC. The goal of this SAMHSA - funded grant is to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement by providing treatment for concerns such as substance misuse, significant emotional disturbances, and/or family conflict. Clinician to provide referrals to other services, as appropriate. Multiple mental health professional positions are available.
Responsibilities of the Mental Health Professional I include but are not limited to:
- Provide evidence-based short -term therapy to children, adolescents, and families who present with psychiatric needs in order to reduce symptomology and increase positive functioning.
- Provide referrals to other parties/agencies in the Spartanburg area system.
- Documentation of ALL visits and communication regarding the children and their families treated.
- Complies with Corporate Compliance policies, regulations, statues, and law regulating the provision of health care.
A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or related field.
Agency Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must be able to meet Department of Mental Health (DMH) credentialing requirements.

A willingness and ability to provide counseling to children, adolescents, and/or families utilizing Brief Strategic Family Therapy, Multidimensional Family Therapy, High Fidelity Wrap Around Services, Trauma Focused CBT, Child -Parent Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other counseling approaches.
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
