What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Engineering Associate I (61035575) position at State of South Carolina?
Acts as a project manager when inspecting asphalt , concrete, embankment, storm drain, stone base, and other various roadway items. Supervises the placement of asphalt and other surface materials on roadway, sediment and erosion control inspections on constructions projects, traffic, control devices, embankment materials, stone base, storm drain, concrete curb , gutter, sidewalks and other concrete. Performs required sampling and testing of materials. Supervises and assists in surveying, verifying/checking, and certifying all offsets and grades associated with all phases of construction. Performs preliminary project items such as as staking , stationing, marking patches, marking permanent construction signs, locating guard rails in accordance with the contract and other preliminary work items as needed. Assists in determining and resolving utility conflicts. Coordinates and/or supervises the placement of concrete for all cast in place bridge elements and other concrete roadway structures. Inspects installation of drive piles, drilled piles, drilled shaft foundations, placement of embankment materials, stone bases, and storm drain for bridge approaches and realignments. Inspects traffic and erosion control of miscellaneous roadway items, placement of concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, storm drains, and other concrete structures. Creates and maintains all traffic control and erosion control reports. Supervises and assists with EEO , wage regulation interview. Responsible for a portion of the correspondence with the Department and contractor personnel. Inputs and reviews all daily work reports on assigned projects. Maintains the records in accordance with the department and office policies. Verifies the accuracy of the certification and sample logs on assigned projects. Assists in the preparation of daily and monthly construction reports and estimates. Completes project Close Out duties, including As built plans, final material certifications, and final contractor quantity concurrence to achieve the project closure in a timely manner. Assists with general office duties such as answering phone calls and providing customer service as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
