What are the responsibilities and job description for the Workforce Spec I - Youth Specialist - JC position at State of South Carolina?
Establishes and maintains a positive military environment for at-risk youth in a residential setting. Ensures emotional, physical, psychological, educational and other needs of youth are met through appropriate intervention, such as personal hygiene, uniform care and maintenance, compliance with program policies, rules and regulations in a structured residential setting. Mentor (teaching life skills & real talk) counsel (encouraging the best options for youth) and tutor cadets. Develops and maintains positive life-coping skills among youth through teaching and enforcing appropriate behaviors. Must be physically fit in order to participate in and instruct physical fitness training and adventure-based training for students. Transport cadets to college activities and events daily. Must be able to set a positive example for students and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff. Observe cadets for unusual behavior and report to necessary staff in a timely manner. Must be able to deal with and de-escalate difficult youth behaviors. Perform other duties as assigned. Positions available are located in Eastover, SC.A high school diploma or equivalent and some experience working in a law enforcement, correctional, security, military environment, or at-risk youth residential facility.
Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations relative to the area of responsibility. Knowledge of principles of human growth and behavior. Knowledge of interpersonal dynamics and personality principles. Ability to observe and interpret behavior. Ability to analyze and organize information. Ability to communicate effective, written and orally. Ability to work in a stressful environment and keep composure. Valid driver's license is required.
