Will conduct research using the Utah Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS), Bureau of Criminal Information database (BCI), Adult Protective Services database, Child Protective Services database and the Utah State Sex Offender Registry in processing background screenings for employees, providers and foster providers with the Department of Health and Human Services. Provides notification to applicants when additional information is required or that an action has been taken on their background screening.

Duties as a Criminal Tech II include the following:- Conducts research in criminal information systems and DHHS protective services databases.
- Interprets statute and rule to process a background screening for individuals associated with DHHS.
- Prepares background screenings for a comprehensive review and an administrative hearing as required.
- Represents the office in a professional and courteous manner to all communications directed to you
- Ensures that agency and/or state records are properly classified, processed and controlled.
- Acts as a resource to provide information or determine the most effective way of meeting the needs of management, staff, clients or customers.
- Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials.
- Searches, retrieves and/or researches public and private records in accordance with applicable state and federal laws governing access to these records.
- Enters data into a computer system and retrieves, corrects, or deletes previously entered data.
- review and/or edit documents for accuracy and completeness

- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
- Pass thorough background investigation
- Must pass the Utah Bureau of Identification Proficiency test with in probationary period and maintain certification thereafter
- Occasional in-state, out-of-state, overnight, and weekend travel may be required
