The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Engineer III position in the Division of Water Quality. This position will maintain technical expertise in all aspects of wastewater treatment systems analysis, design, and permit delivery. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below with the potential to move up through the job series. Salary depends on experience and the job level offered within the series.
Job Description
- Prepare technical reports for and present projects to the Water Quality Board.
- Review engineering calculations, plans, and technical specifications for Wastewater Infrastructure projects.
- Participate as a team member or team leader on Special Projects and Division Initiatives.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally to internal and external customers, stakeholders and the public.
Best Qualified Candidate
The best qualified candidate will have the following:
- Professional experience in engineering practice with increasing degrees of responsibility involving wastewater process technology analysis, design and specification.
- Professional Engineer/Registered Engineer license in Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Environmental or related disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of physicochemical and biological wastewater treatment process fundamentals and resource recovery principles.
- Direct experience developing or implementing wastewater treatability analysis, developing process models, analyzing process alternatives, and working with designers to prepare engineering plans, and specifications for treatment works and sewerage systems.
- Strong project management skills and an ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications
At a minimum candidate must hold an Engineer in training (EIT) certificate demonstrating passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. This position may be overfilled at the Environmental Engineer III level if the selected applicant is a registered as a professional engineer in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22 or be able to obtain one within one year from the date of hire.
Preferences
- Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering,
- OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.
Job Series
The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Engineer I with a salary range of $25.33 - $35.00, an Environmental Engineer II with a salary range of $29.82 - $40.00 per hour, or an Environmental Engineer III with a salary range of $33.23 - $48.00 per hour.
Work Location
This position may be eligible for a hybrid of both in-office/hybrid work schedule (2 days a week required in office and any mandatory in office meetings) and remote work days (work must be performed in Utah). Our office is located at 195 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason. Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah. As such employees should either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
