GAL Attorney - 2nd District - Ogden

• Prepares cases by conducting legal research and gathering information. 

• Makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions. 

• Participates in decision-making and strategy sessions to prepare cases for court. 

• Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, mediation agreements, documents, and/or other written material.

• Represents the best interest of their client(s) in all stages of the case(s) assigned.

• Conducts independent investigations, negotiates settlements, and/or attends all mediations and court hearings. 

• Juris Doctorate and a member in good standing of the Utah Bar Association. 

• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.

• General understanding of child welfare and/or district court proceedings.

• Read and understand the information presented in writing.

• Communicate information and ideas concisely and in writing.

• General understanding of legal processes and procedures, applicable laws, rules, regulations, and/or policies and procedures, and ability to apply them. 

• Ability to analyze legal issues and research sound conclusions.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, court staff, allied agencies, and members of the public.

• Deal with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.

• Experience in family and/or juvenile law.

• Candidate must have a Juris Doctorate and be a member in good standing of the Utah State Bar Association. According to Utah Code 78A-2-802(4), GAL Attorneys shall have “no clients other than minors whose interest they represent within the Guardian ad Litem program.”

• Must pass a background check with the Division of Child & Family Services.

• Compensation commensurate with education and experience.
