Job Description

The Utah State Hospital is hiring for a Journey Maintenance / Construction Specialist in our Support Services Department. There is 1 position available.

Principal Duties

The Journey Maintenance / Construction Specialist performs a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties requiring independent ability to organize and complete maintenance projects. Duties include troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing issues in the following areas :

  • Appliances
  • Roofing
  • Grounds work
  • Painting
  • Plumbing
  • Snow removal
  • Locks

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consultation to originators of project job orders, including development of project plans and related estimates.
  • Build, fabricate, or repair structures, equipment, and / or miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions, blueprints and / or working drawings.
  • Have the ability to use a variety of hand tools, electrical, mechanical, and automotive equipment.
  • Perform emergency preparedness planning.
  • Read and interpret maps, plats, charts, plans, blueprints and / or electrical schematics.

  • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
  • The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and / or others against physical attack.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

  • Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
