Thriving Utah is an AmeriCorps State Program which partners with nonprofits and state agencies to provide capacity building through AmeriCorps service. Working closely with these organizations, AmeriCorps members create and execute a capacity building plan tailored to the organization’s needs, services, and goals.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The AmeriCorps Program Specialist will be a member of the Thriving Utah team and will report to the Thriving Utah AmeriCorps Program Director. In this position candidates must perform a wide variety of administrative support duties ranging from general basic clerical support to complex administrative coordination.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manage the creation and implementation of individualized professional development plans for AmeriCorps members
- Provide support and oversight for AmeriCorps member enrollment including recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding
- Prepare presentation materials for use by others, edit content and potentially add appropriate graphic and design elements. Perform basic statistical calculations on data for reports and presentations.
- Compose and/or prepare correspondence, memoranda, promotional materials, forms, newsletters, manuals, and reports using appropriate word processing and spreadsheet tools.
- Maintain close contact with the AmeriCorps Programs to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, advise/counsel, and make judgments based on state and federal guidelines.
- Respond to and initiate inquiries (questions regarding database, fiscal, specialized programs, etc.) Explain policies, answer questions, and independently resolve problems whenever feasible.
- Maintain tracking/monitoring systems to meet federal grant compliance requirements; communicate policy and procedures to program organizations and service community.
- Compile and maintain information that may require web or library research, gather, and update data and records.
- Complete research on best practices; collect data, analyze and develop reports.
- Maintain data on program and AmeriCorps member performance; support ongoing evaluation and system improvement processes.
- Coordinate event planning and make logistical arrangements for program meetings and larger events.
- Perform other duties as required to support the mission and function of Thriving Utah.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities
- A combination of education and experience that has provided the applicant with the skills necessary to accomplish the outlined tasks. Priority consideration will be afforded to applicants with AmeriCorps or volunteer management experience
- Planning, coordination and delivery of training
- Experience in interpreting and applying policies, grant requirements, technical directives, state or federal standards and regulations, and implementing compliance processes/procedures
- Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and oral/writing communication skills required.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, take responsibility for meeting deadlines, and be a skilled problem solver.
- Ability to initiate projects and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize & manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to explain complex concepts/goals of program or project; develop and research alternative problem-solving strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as a Program Specialist I with a salary range of $19.86-$34.13 or Program Specialist II with a salary range of $24.00-$36.04, but it anticipated that this position will be filled at the Program Specialist I level.
Also, this position will be hired as a Schedule TL (term-limited) position. Dependent upon funding this could be converted to a career service Schedule B position.
