Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide essential support to an individual with Down syndrome located in Starksboro, VT. This role is vital in enhancing the quality of life for this individual by assisting them in daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their well-being. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to caregiving and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those they support.
Duties
- Assist individual with daily living activities which may include prompts for personal hygiene, meal preparation, accompanying to appointments/work.
- Assist individual while at work (physically present, providing guidance and gentle reminders on staying on task, etc.).
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance social skills and overall well-being.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each his needs and preferences.
- Support individual in community integration activities, encouraging participation in social events and outings.
- Maintain accurate documentation via binder for family and agency communication.
- Have reliable vehicle providing transportation to and from work as well as community outings.
Experience
- Previous experience in home care, assisted living, or hospice care is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with working with individuals who have developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individual, families, and team members.
- A compassionate approach to caregiving with a commitment to promoting client independence and dignity.
