Overview

Lead a team of skilled tradespeople to maintain and improve Vermont's beautiful State Parks. As Parks Grounds & Facilities Supervisor, you'll play a critical role in preserving the cultural and environmental elements of the state's natural beauty. You'll oversee a team of maintenance professionals, ensuring the upkeep of park buildings, grounds, and utilities. This position requires a hands-on approach, as it involves both administrative tasks and field work. Skilled maintenance, grounds, facilities, and trades work and staff supervision involving the oversight, design, construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of State Parks buildings, grounds, and utilities such as water and sewage systems in an assigned region of the Vermont State Parks System for the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. Supervision is exercised over skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers including Contractors, Parks Maintenance Technicians, Parks Maintenance Plumbers, Parks Maintenance Electricians, Park Managers, other temporary parks personnel, and/or volunteers. May independently perform specialized and difficult projects when assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of a Parks Regional Facility Manager.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in shop and field settings both outdoors and inside buildings. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, lift heavy weights (up to 50 lbs.), and work in cramped, damp, or poorly ventilated areas. Manual dexterity and strict adherence to safety precautions are needed to operate equipment and use tools. Requires possession of a valid driver's license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present. Some evening or overtime work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent two (2) years or more of work experience above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair, AND one (1) year or more in a supervisory or lead worker role.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH one (1) year or more of vocational training in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair AND one (1) year or more of work experience above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair, AND one (1) year or more in a supervisory or lead worker role.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH one (1) year or more of work experience working in a parks setting AND one (1) year or more of work experience above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair, AND one (1) year or more in a supervisory or lead worker role.
