Position and Salary Information:
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a full time project IT System Admin – Journey level in the Information Services Division. This position is located in Tumwater, Washington and is not union-represented.
IT System Management – Journey: Salary Range 06IT: $7,147 - $9,612 monthly.
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:
- Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.
- Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.
- Employees within the information technology professional structure who are in the entry, journey, and senior/specialist levels designated as and performing all the duties of a supervisor will receive 5% supervisory pay differential
Division Information.
The Information Services Division (ISD) provides support and consulting for legal technologies.
The division is responsible for the development and delivery of AGO computer and telephone network infrastructure and the operation of network hardware and software platforms to provide AGO staff access to their work products and communications. This division has multiple units that provide eDiscovery litigation support, custom software development, business intelligence and data management services. Data security and disaster recovery are key to the maintenance and operations of the AGO's voice and data systems. The division also ensures compliance with state governance policies and standards and ensures that all electronic services function properly and securely.
Position Description
This position is directly responsible for the systems design, implementation, systems administration, maintenance, performance monitoring, capacity planning, security, and business continuity of virtual infrastructure, application delivery, database, and data storage systems. The position provides technical leadership, design recommendations and conducts complex capacity, design, and implementation tasks. This position may lead business resumption efforts related to the server and storage infrastructure.
This position is responsible for producing work that is consistent with nationally recognized IT Security best practice standards from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the SANS Institute (SANS) and be of such quality that it would be viewed favorably by 3rd party auditors who examine the state of IT Security within the AGO.
Duties of Position:

Position holds direct responsibility for the complete support lifecycle of application and server infrastructure. This includes senior-level analysis, installation, deployment, configuration, licensing administration, and support of:
- Windows server systems
- Enterprise firewall systems (like Palo Alto and Fortigate)
- Enterprise routing and switches equipment (like Cisco Catalyst, Meraki, Juniper, Aruba)
- Active Directory (including DNS and Group Policy)
- Custom and COTS application servers
- All layers of virtualization (including VMware, Nutanix, and NetApp)
- Position will lead operational teams to coordinate maintenance and improvement to multiple services connected with agency infrastructure and application servers.
- Position provides completed systems analysis and designs, expertise to projects and solves complex technology problems. Will also perform capacity planning and projection for supported services.
- Provide support and call troubleshooting assistance for other Network Technology Solutions service areas including network operating system and business continuity. Supports agency operations in day-to-day and emergency operations, including off-hours support on a periodic basis.
- Research and development related to both existing systems and new technologies. Position evaluates current operational practices for suitability, efficiency, effectiveness, and completeness.

Required Qualifications
Option 1: A Bachelor's degree including 9 semester or 15 quarter hours of computer science courses AND three (3) years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, and troubleshooting/problem resolution experience.
Option 2: An Associate's degree or completion of an accredited vocational training program in an information technology or related program AND four (4) years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution.
Three (3) years of demonstrated history (within the last five years) of systems administration in an enterprise environment, which includes change management, service level agreements, and high operational reliability.
Three (3) years of experience (within the last five years) with backup and data storage systems.
The most competitive candidates will possess the following desired qualifications:
- Three (3) years of experience (within the last five years) with network addressing protocols and design, such as those for IPv4 and IP6, network subnets, VLANs, routing, bridging, and network trunks.
- Industry certification such as CCNE, MCSE, or other rigorous industry qualification, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Familiarity with HIPAA requirements.
