The Opportunity:
The Human Resource (HR) Department is responsible for ensuring the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is compliant with all state and federal labor laws and regulations. collective bargaining agreements. policies, and best practices. The staff within the HR department provides direction and consultation to managers, supervisors, and staff regarding all facets of human resource administration. This position reports to the Human Resources Data and Systems Supervisor.
This position supports the mission of WSDA by creating a welcoming and helpful onboarding experience for new agency employees. Every year, WSDA hires dozens of permanent employees and hundreds of seasonal employees. Our goal is to have someone in this position who loves assisting people starting a new job and getting them the information they need to be successful.

The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The typical starting salary for this position is: $49,116 - $64,440 annually.Duties
Some of what you'll do:
- When advised of a new agency hire, prepare appointment letter and welcome packet.
- Send welcome packet to new (non-seasonal) employee, preferably in advance of their start date.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new employees.
- Facilitate accurate Form I-9 verification of new hires.
- Coordinate with TAT team to facilitate new hires attending the next New Employee Orientation event.
- Review personnel/payroll advisements for accuracy and input (keys actions) into HRMS accurately and in a timely manner to meet payroll period cut-offs.
- Process both employee and position/organizational management updates into HRMS. To include position establishments, reallocations, abolishment's, and reporting changes.
- Ensure advisements accurately align with HRMS data definitions rules, Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
- Run and distribute standard reports in HRMS.
- Create Desk Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Request employee files for new hires and transferring employees.
- Create and send employee file transmittals for separating employees.
- Assist with maintaining WSDA HR SharePoint site.
- Participate in development of tools for the WSDA SharePoint site.
Qualifications
Who should apply?
Professionals with:
High school diploma or equivalent.
AND
At least one (1) year of office experience in a related setting performing a wide range of human resource administrative duties. Duties may very but must include entering data or using data from a Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
In addition to the above qualifications, the following desired knowledge, skills, and abilities would make your application more competitive:
- Additional education and/or certificates in administration, business, human resources, or related fields.
- Ability to use and extract reports from various HR databases and applicant tracking systems.
