Salary: $4,632.00 - $6,227.00 Monthly. The salary does not include an additional on-site 24/7 facility 5% premium.
The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is seeking a dedicated Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 2 to join our team at Sunrise Community Facility. In this rewarding role, you’ll support adjudicated youth as they transition from institutional settings to community facilities, helping them successfully reintegrate into their communities. Sunrise is a minimum-security residential facility where you’ll play a vital part in shaping the futures of young individuals on their journey toward positive change.

The Opportunity:
You will provide comprehensive case management, transition planning and counseling, and treatment referral services for an assigned caseload of youth and young adults committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the courts. Our objective is to maintain a secure, therapeutic environment that provides youth and young adults the information, skills, and motivation to succeed outside the Institution living productive lives in the community.
Some of what you'll do:
- Provide supervision and cognitive/behavioral treatment to youth committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the juvenile courts and who have a complex range of disorders and service needs.
- Interview and administer/interpret screening tools and assessments, assess behavior, prioritize treatment targets, develop treatment plans, and implement Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other therapeutic treatment interventions.
- Facilitate various groups and activities and prepare youth and their families for the transition back to the community.
- Perform routine security duties.
- Supervise and/or serve meals to resident groups.
- Monitor movement of residents within the facility and in the community.
- Supervise and assign chores within a living unit to meet health and hygiene standards.
Required qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, totaling five years.
OR
One year as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor Assistant (JRCA) or Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 1 (JRC1).
OR
A Bachelor's degree, AND one year of professional experience working with at-risk or justice system-involved youth as a case manager, counselor, probation officer, parole officer, or experience working in a social service capacity planning directing, supervising, or facilitating interventions with at-risk juvenile justice system youth or related field.
Note: A degree in Social Work must be from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Note: A Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or in an allied field will substitute for the one year of experience.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles.
- Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences related to juvenile delinquency.
- Ability to use verbal de-escalation and physical control techniques approved for intervention with verbally and or physically aggressive youth.
