Our Human Resources Division is seeking a collaborative and knowledgeable Human Resources Leader who can effectively apply complex laws and regulations while maintaining a human-centered approach to reasonable accommodations and protected leaves.

Duties
As a Human Resources Consultant Supervisor, you will serve as the agency expert for all reasonable accommodation and protected leave while providing mentorship and coaching to the team member you directly lead. You will facilitate the interactive reasonable accommodation process for high risk and complex accommodations while providing expert level consultation to leadership and employees. Under your guidance, the team will manage an active caseload of protected leave and reasonable accommodations cases, helping meet the needs of our employees. Your ability to prioritize effectively while maintaining a people-centered approach will directly support our agency’s purpose of helping every Washington resident live, work, drive, and thrive.
Some of what you will do:- Obtain and interpret medical documentation to identify reasonable accommodation options.
- Develop and maintain databases for protected leave and reasonable accommodation cases for case management statistics.
- Draft protected leave and reasonable accommodation determination notices on behalf of executive leadership.
- Ensure all processes and approaches follow federal and state laws regarding hiring, and relevant portions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Set expectations and conduct evaluations for direct report while facilitating growth and development opportunities.
- Supervise one employee and ensure the team is accountable for their work and have the resources, skills, and information to provide exceptional HR customer service.
Qualifications
Five (5) years of professional level broad based Human Resources Consulting experience, with a focus on consulting on protected leave and interpreting and applying reasonable accommodation policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal rules/laws.
- One (1) year of experience identifying, interpreting, applying and explaining employment laws, rules and policies such as Collective Bargaining Agreement’s, Revised Codes of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
- Three (3) years of experience independently composing and formatting professional emails, memos, letters, and other documents using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Three (3) years of experience using Microsoft Products. This may include Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- One (1) year experience facilitating meetings, presentations, workshops and training sessions.

Two (2) years of professional lead or supervisory experience.
- Excellent and responsive customer service to all internal and external customers by listening attentively, identifying issues, providing options, fulfilling services, and exercising knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to provide technical assistance or resolve problems.
- The ability to independently assess a situation and/or analyze information and apply appropriate judgement using existing knowledge and resources to determine a logical and accurate course of action, recommendation, or solution.
- The ability to effectively handle highly stressful or adverse situations, making good decisions, working calmly and accurately and helping to calm others.
- The ability to understand and follow agency values of respect, trust, diversity, equity and inclusion through behaviors and decisions.
- The ability to effectively prioritize tasks in the presence of competing demands.
Experience can be gained concurrently.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, employment law, public administration, or a related field may substitute for three (3) years of experience.
What may help set you apart:
- Seven (7) years of professional level broad based Human Resources Consulting experience, with a focus on consulting on protected leave and interpreting and applying reasonable accommodations in accordance with state and federal rules/laws.
- Six (6) months of experience handling workers’ compensation claims from the employer standpoint including time loss compensation, loss of earning power, and STAY-at-Work reimbursement claims.
- Additional education in business, Human Resources, employment law, public administration, or a related field.
- Professional Human Resources Certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP.
Additional Conditions of employment:
- The ability to travel statewide, sometimes overnight.
- Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- This position is expected to work on site full time during the training phase. Once training is completed, this position will be required to work on site a minimum of three (3) days per week and may change based on business need.
