Our Prorate and Fuel Tax Services (PRFT) within our Business & Professions Division (BPD) is currently recruiting a Supervising Revenue Auditor that can lead in a hybrid environment and has an interest in tax collection and customer service.
Washington’s infrastructure requires considerable investment to ensure residents and visitors have safety, comfort, and simplicity as they move around the state. Our Prorate and Fuel Tax Services administers the state’s fuel tax collection programs, as well as the International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), collecting almost $2 billion in annual revenue for the state’s transportation programs to ensure investment continues in state roadways.

Duties
As a Supervising Revenue Auditor, you will lead and train a team of revenue auditors who conduct audits for all fuel tax licenses, ensuring proper calculation of fees, taxes, penalties, interest, as well as compliance with Washington State fuel tax regulations and federal agreements. You will create and evaluate training materials regarding audits of International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) motor carriers, fuel tax licensees, and fuel tax refund account holders in accordance with all applicable laws. You will be responsible for assigning and tracking complex and lengthy audits for large corporate customers to your team, ensuring a quality and compliant work product. Running regular reports and providing updates to leadership will be a regular part of your position as well. Providing in-person or remote updates to your team will be a critical step for ensuring performance. Travel will be infrequent, but may be required, including overnight and out of state stays for trainings and to visit customer locations to complete audits.
Some of what you will do:
- Assign and review work for your professional staff while evaluating their performance and coaching them through challenges.
- Develop and draft training materials and provide training to auditors using various methods.
- Ensure proper reporting through research, reconciliation, and analysis oversight.
- Identify, recommend, and test system changes.
- Calculate and analyze statistics as the subject matter expert for your team.
Qualifications
What you will bring to the role:
- Eight (8) years’ relevant experience performing intermediate to complex auditing, accounting, and data analysis that includes compiling, reconciling, and analyzing large quantities of data.
Up to four (4) years of relevant education in business administration, public administration, law, public health, health administration, accounting, or auditing may substitute year for year for experience.

Experience must include:
- Using computer programs to write documents, send emails, edit spreadsheets, share documents, send messages, and present information.
- Interpreting laws, rules, regulations, and policies, and assessing impacts.
What may help set you apart:
- Experience leading, supervising, evaluating, and managing employee performance.
- Experience prioritizing and managing multiple assigned work products, organizing multiple assignments to produce work products on time, and planning assigned work with little direct supervision.
- Experience assisting in developing professional training plans that instruct, coach, and identify training needs.
- Knowledge of and experience working with federal, state, and other jurisdictional fuel tax and registration law.
Additional Conditions of employment:

- Ability to travel statewide and overnight throughout the country occasionally.
- In office attendance will be required at our Olympia office location to support business needs. While this will likely be only 2-3 times per month, any commute costs to Olympia will be the responsibility for the employee.
