The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a dedicated and energetic individual to take on payroll and administrative duties in our North Central Region. As the Fiscal Technician 2, you will support the agency mission by providing administrative, purchasing, HR, travel and fiscal support to staff, crews, and operations for region-wide Maintenance and Specialty crews, Area Maintenance, TEF and the managers there of. This position is also expected to support TMC operations. This position will consider personal, co-worker and public safety as the first and foremost objective during the planning and performance of all activities in connection with work assignments. You will certainly thrive in this position if you have knowledge of payroll functions, experience in customer service and possess strong attention to detail.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Fiscal Technician 2 will:
- Coordinate the purchasing and payment.
- Maintain accurate control of consumable and stockpile inventory.
- Enter of purchase orders, inventory withdrawals and transfers, and truck and shelf stock inventory control.
- Enter and track credit card purchase information in Purchasing Card Management System (PCMS) .
- Responsible for cell phone and other subscriber-based service payments.
- Review, analyze and verify month end financial and purchasing reports for accuracy and to ensure proper coding.
- Reconcile discrepancies and talk with vendors.
- Prepare and process travel vouchers and reimbursements.
- Support managers and supervisors by compiling, recording, entering, and reporting data.
- Support managers and supervisors in the maintenance of databases.
- Prepare, process, and review K-job repair cost estimates checking to ensure information is correct and correspond to accident reports.
- Review 8420's and material purchases.
- Ensure time and leave are input correctly and accurately recorded with proper charge codes for each activity.
- Assist supervisors/superintendents in the various new hire and HR related paperwork for which the Org’s are responsible.
- Plan/schedule and prepare meetings and materials.
- Make travel arrangements.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- Two (2) years of general clerical/fiscal experience (education may substitute on a year for year basis).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience with office equipment, including computer software, printer, copier, scanner, fax, calculator, and multi-line telephone.
- Broad computer technology and software skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products and web-based and mainframe programs.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- High school graduation or GED equivalency.
- One (1) year of experience as a principal radio operator or dispatcher using multi-band, two-way radio equipment and personal computers.
- Working knowledge of the WSDOT's accounting and information systems.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with governmental accounting.
- Experience performing standard accounting and payroll applications.
- Experience in handling multiple tasks simultaneously in an emergency response environment.
- Experience operating communications systems.
- Knowledge of WSDOT maintenance activities, policies, and procedures.
