We are very excited to announce a new opening for a Plant Manager 2, Full-Time, Permanent, position here at the wonderful Spokane Veterans Home!
- This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open 24 hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility three days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 30th, 2025.

These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
This position is responsible to know and understand appropriate codes, disciplines, and safety issues of the Spokane Veterans Home campus, including inspection of facility building, grounds, vehicles, and equipment. Bring your experience, knowledge, and leadership skills, and apply today!
Duties
Some of the things that you will be doing:
Assign and Monitor work of assigned staff.- Know and understand appropriate codes, disciplines, and safety issues of the Spokane Veterans Home campus, including inspection of facility building, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
- Prioritizes and determines need for maintenance and repair via routine inspections.
- Assigns work to employees, inspects completed work and reviews ongoing progress of projects for small maintenance and repair work completed on site.
- Responsible for facility utilities; such as the heating and cooling environment, water, gas, sanitation, power and lights.
- Monitors maintenance projects and is responsible for alterations of existing facility including preparation of plans, specifications and estimated costs.
- Works closely with vendors and service providers.
- Responsible for budget issues, i.e. bids, estimates, and expenditures of department.Operation of hand and power tools as required for carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Knowledge, skills and ability to repair laundry and kitchen equipment used daily for 100 bed facility.
- Performs heavy manual tasks and skilled mechanical work as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
Three (3) years supervisory experience in operation and/or maintenance of physical plant in a public establishment.- Knowledge of, but not limited to, fire Safety codes, various federal and state required inspections, WAC's, RCW's, building codes, and cost estimating of certifications and building operations.
- Knowledge of regulations relating to physical environment and facility; heating, cooling, ventilation systems, plumbing, sewer and water systems.
Preferred/Desired:
- Electrical/plumbing experience
- Knowledge of automobile maintenance
- Heating/air-conditioning experience
- Carpentry work/experience
- Experience in geriatric and/or healthcare institutional setting.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
- Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
- Become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
