Position Summary:

The Research and Monitoring Technician will assist the Research and Monitoring Program Coordinator in developing and implementing environmental monitoring programs to assess the effectiveness of conservation practices. This role involves both fieldwork and office tasks, including planning and participating in monitoring projects related to streams, soil, and habitats, as well as organizing public events and assisting with grant deliverables. The successful candidate will join a team of conservation professionals dedicated to enhancing and protecting natural resources.

Position Details:


  • Full-time position (40 hours/week)
  • Temporary / Seasonal
  • Compensation: $44,726 - $51,776 (DOE)

Duties



Job Duties:


  • Assist in developing and implementing environmental monitoring programs.
  • Assist in data collection, management and organization.
  • Help organize and coordinate public events.
  • Assist other staff with grant deliverables and contract-related tasks.
  • Work both in the field and the office as part of the research and monitoring program.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, or closely related field; OR a technical degree (AS/AA) and 1-year related experience.
  • Knowledge of ecological restoration and agricultural best management practices.
  • Experience conducting wildlife surveys including but not limited to, breeding bird surveys, small mammal surveys, and game camera trapping.
  • Experience conducting vegetation assessments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite and ESRI software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physically able to carry up to 40 lbs. over steep and rough terrain in inclement weather conditions. Organized and attentive to detail.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience programming with The R Project for Statistical Computing.
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal conservation programs.
  • Knowledge of watershed management, hydrology, and stream ecology.
  • Experience processing remote sensing data from satellites.
  • Knowledge of local plant communities and vegetation monitoring techniques.
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) pilot with a current remote pilot certificate.
  • Experience with ESRI GIS programs.
