IT System Administration - Journey (Azure)

The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) seeks to fill an Azure Administrator – Journey position. This full-time position is based in Olympia, Washington. This position may be eligible for partial teleworking up to two days a week. Telework is a combination of in-building and off-site days. Position Overview
The Azure System Administrator is part of a team that works with a variety of programs that support school districts across the state. You will learn about our systems and customers to provide services used in delivering funding, policy, and equity to school districts across the state.
You will be responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's Azure cloud infrastructure and resources. You will ensure the availability, performance, and security of cloud resources, supporting the organization's mission and goals by providing reliable and scalable cloud services.
Key Responsibilities (highlights)
You will have a range of responsibilities related to Azure Management and conferencing:
- Manage integrations between Azure resources and on-premises infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations.
- Manage the MDM software infrastructure with Azure tools that facilitate automated configuration of cell phones.
- Deploy and manage cloud applications, virtual machines, and features using Azure App Service. (i.e. file services, identity management, Azure key vault).
- Monitoring, Performance Optimization, and Automation.
- Implement and monitor Azure Diagnostics to track logs and analyze performance metrics.
- Develop and manage Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates for infrastructure provisioning.
- Create automated workflows using Azure Functions PaaS and SaaS solutions.
- Security Management and Compliance.
- Administer multi-factor authentication (MFA), conditional access policies, and identity protection using Azure Active Directory.
- Implement and enforce Azure Policies to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
- Assist the Security Engineer to implement their direction and policies.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery.
- Implement and manage Azure Backup to ensure data and virtual machines are backed up.
- Configure Azure Site Recovery for business continuity and disaster recovery.
- Implement and manage data retention policies to comply with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Voice Communications and Web Conferencing Support.
- Configure and manage desktop phones to ensure seamless voice and video communication.
- Prepare and submit detailed purchase requests for desktop phones to meet program and agencies’ needs.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or Information Technology. Working experience may be substituted for education year for year.
AND
And two (2) years of information technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and maintaining computer software applications, hardware, or network infrastructure equipment in information technology. This is in addition to formal training, education or the years of experience above.
Desired Qualifications:
In addition to the required skills, we’ll recognize some of your other skills too:
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI).
- Knowledge of DevOps practices.
- Management of Azure storage
Compensation
The annual compensation for the position is $85,764 and $115,344 per year and depends upon experience, educational background and qualifications. Geographic differentials may be applied based on work location of successful candidate. Washington State offers a generous benefit package including health, dental and life insurance, retirement and an optional deferred compensation program.
