Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC), is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill multiple full-time permanent and non-permanent Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant (CISA) positions in Food Factory at Airway Heights Corrections Center in Airway Heights, WA.

Correctional Industries (CI) is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated work training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by providing assistance in the supervision and training of incarcerated workers in the production, processing and manufacturing of food products.      

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

Assists in the supervision and training of incarcerated workers under the direction of the shop supervisor/lead. 
  • Observe and supervise incarcerated workers in operating and maintaining equipment/machinery to include but not limited to the AHCC Food Factory.
  • Document all training is required. 
  • Document and provide feedback on incarcerated worker job performance and behavior using infraction reports, incident reports, behavior logs, performance appraisals, certificates of proficiency, letters of counseling, or verbally, as appropriate and in accordance with DOC Policy.

Participates in the planning and scheduling of resources.
  • Participates in the scheduling of materials and incarcerated workers to meet production demand.
  • Direct and assigns incarcerated workers.
  • Verify order information to ensure production and service fulfillment accuracy.
  • As directed, coordinate raw material delivery, finished goods delivery and support services.
  • Follow the established preventative maintenance schedule of equipment.

Ensure incarcerated workers receive safety training and adhere to safe work practices by participating in a Safety and Accident Prevention Program in accordance with DOC Policies.
  • Maintain proper recordkeeping for the DOC Safety Program.
  • Ensure incarcerated workers have access to current DOC Safety Program related manuals, policies, operational memorandums, productions and standards.
  • Within established timelines review and investigate accident reports to identify what caused the event and recommend preventive measures.
  • Participate in and/or conduct monthly Safety committee/meetings.
  • Document safety and sanitation inspections, as required.

Ensure safe and secure operations:
  • Maintain security and discipline over incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy.
  • Account for incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy, to include informal counts and reconciliation of call outs, etc.
  • Execute and maintain tool control processes according to DOC policy, to include completion of daily tool accountability log, tool add/drops, shadow board, etc.
  • Account for and document the perpetual inventory of consumable items (e.g. blades, drill bits, box cutters, etc.).
  • Maintain key control per DOC policy, to include, inspect keys, keep on person at all times, report discrepancies, etc.

Administrative duties:
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping for incarcerated workers, as required, to include: sign in/sign out within Correctional Industries Time Keeping (CITK), reconcile discrepancies, etc.
  • Participate in the interview/hire process of incarcerated workers as required.
  • Prepare incarcerated personnel actions (infractions, onsite corrections, corrective counseling coaching, expectations) in accordance to DOC policy.
  • Participate/conduct inventory control and counts.
  • Provides input in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Other duties as assigned: including but not limited to:
  • Participates in product management and development teams as assigned.
  • As requested, recommends design and engineering improvements to products, production, and services to enhance operations.  
  • Certified trainers may assist in conducting workforce development training.
  • Support continuous process improvement.
Required Qualifications:

One (1) year full time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, or institutional feeding environment.
 
OR

One (1) year total full time work experience as a Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant within the Washington State Department of Corrections.

AND

  •  High school diploma or GED equivalent
  •  Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or equivalent software programs.
  •  Effective oral and written communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
  •  Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
  •  Ability to set and manage priorities.
  • Must currently possess or obtain an AIB Certification for "Food Safety & Sanitation" distance learning course within 12 months of receipt of materials.
  • Must currently possess or obtain a valid State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Worker Permit within 14 days of hire.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • More than one (1) year full time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
  •  An AA degree or Vocational Certificate/degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  •  Knowledge of Manufacturing Resource Planning software (MRP)
  •  Experience with teaching and training.
  •  Experience working within a correctional facility.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
  • Become familiar and comply with all DOC policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • This position is included in a union shop
  • Submit to a drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.
  • Must pass pre-employment UA test.
