What to Expect
This position will provide technical data analytics and transportation skills and knowledge that are necessary to lead studies, investigations, and program evaluations that yield insights we use to engage internal and external partners and facilitate collaborative, data-driven decisions.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Data Analyst will:
- Lead efforts to collect, manage, and analyze public transportation datasets.
- Lead efforts to apply theoretical and practical statistical analytics.
- Lead efforts to collect, organize, and maintain Transportation Demand Management (TDM) datasets.
- Fulfill requests for data to support TDM programs’ performance.
- Assist grant evaluation teams by producing data required to rate and prioritize project applications and improve grant program effectiveness.
- Lead efforts to analyze spatial data to discover patterns and trends and to evaluate the efficacy of grant funding.
- Use VBA, R, Python (or similar) to create/streamline processes in the data program.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years in math, statistics, or data analysis; sociology, demography, or related social science; urban geography; computer science; transportation; planning; engineering; public policy or administration; GIS for multimodal transportation; or related field.
- Experience and knowledge of inferential statistics, statistical concepts, and statistical modeling.
- Skills to communicate complex, policy, project, and technical information effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication skills and the ability to adapt communication style to various audiences.
- The ability to consistently build positive working relationships with transit agencies, transportation providers, communities, planning organizations, and other state and federal agencies.
- Skills and ability to work with teams to prepare well-developed programs, projects, systems, and reports that include all pertinent information.
- Experience with the following:
- Transportation demand management
- Multimodal transportation networks and their use
- Sustainable transportation theories and practices
- Data collection, cleaning, and processing
- Data analysis methods
- Statistical visualization methods
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- SQL, R, or Python
- Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
- General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) and extensions.
- ESRI products (e.g., ArcGIS Desktop/Online/Pro, Survey123, Network Analyst)
- Spatial data analysis and reporting

- This position is eligible for remote work up to 100%, per supervisor approval. This remote work opportunity is available to residents of Washington or bordering states. Occasional in-state travel is necessary, and travel may include overnight stays.
- This position will be responsible for hiring, training, assigning work, providing guidance, verifying deliverables, and evaluating the performance of 1 (one) TPS3.
- The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 5% salary premium for positions stationed in King County.
- In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
