Maintenance Supervisor 3 - Operations ManagerCome and work with us and apply your leadership knowledge to supervise the operation’s side of our Maintenance and operations division which supports four large state facilities located at the Yakima Valley School in Selah WA. As a supervisor, you'll have a vital role. We are eager to hire a hardworking, dedicated, and safety-oriented professional to join our team. Some of what you'll do: Plan, direct and manage operational programs, and professional staff including but not limited to: Train, develop, manage and supervise a variety of operation’s-based team members within the following departments: Grounds, Motor Pool, Steam plant, Laundry, and Auto shop.Maintenance and operations of three large steam plants.Utilities management including natural gas and fuel oil acquisition, inventory control and sustainable use.Manage and supervise the planning of large and complex gardening and grounds maintenance program.Manage transportation services to staff and large clients and patients provided through a staff of truck drivers.Management of a large fleet of Motor Pool by operational coordination, driver training and certification vehicle acquisition.Facilities, utilization, management and coordination of large building area and land along with the evaluation and authorization of campus use by organizations outside the agency.Environmental Regulation Management: assure that city, county and state regulations are met during the operations of campus wide boilers, generators and other emissions generating equipment.Formulate operational policies and procedures (work directives) for recommendation to the Facilities Manager and Director.Review TJC, CMS, Fire Marshall Codes, L & I codes and other state and local safety codes to ensure compliance is met for Consolidated Support Services and their relation to Eastern State Hospital, and Lakeland Village. Counsels staff and takes corrective action as the need arises in a fair and objective manor. Writes evaluations for subordinate staff. Advises and assure staff has up to date safety training, DSHS Annual Safety Training, training on rules, regulations, and procedure of the facilities. Ensures assigned shops SDS’s, JHA’s and PPE’s are up to date.The Operations Manager provides leadership, mentoring and process improvement support to CSS staff and supervisors. Communicates effectively, anticipates and manages problems through the objective administration of the division and the agency policies and procedures, coaches, mentors and trains subordinate, plans and implements employee evaluation and development, manages multiple issues simultaneously with limited resources. Assists Facility Manager with labor and union requests, conducts investigations, represents organizational issues with outside agencies and regulators, negotiates agreements, achieves facility related certification and audit compliance and accomplishes varied other assigned tasks.Proactively participate on the division’s management team, by assisting in development of policies and procedures, development and implementation of spending plans, for new or replacement equipment and facilities and performance of the duty officer functions on a rotating schedule.Who should apply? Professionals who have journey status as a trades-worker in one of the recognized fields such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, or sheet metal. Five years of work experience as a journey trades-worker, two years of which in a lead or supervisory capacity. OR Equivalent education/experience Desired: Operations experience to include grounds maintenance, motor pool & auto shop, equipment operators, and/or stationary engineers.Extensive experience in all areas of personnel, including hiring, evaluating, training, and implementing disciplinary action.Knowledge of time tracking; project planning including facilities and equipment upgrades; local and state safety rules and regulations and codes.Experience with hazardous building management; building trades; large facility operations; motor pool purchasing & management.Knowledge of state procurement and inventory processesAbility to effectively communicate with management, peers, staff, clients, and the public.The Department of Social and Health Services’ (DSHS) vision that people find human services to shape their own lives requires that we come together with a sense of belonging, common purpose, shared values, and meaningful work.
