What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSHS Fircrest Attendant Counselor Manager position at State of Washington?
Fircrest School/Residential Habilitation Center is looking for an Attendant Counselor Manager to join our team of professionals located in Shoreline, Washington. In this role, you will be part of the support team for recruitment, hiring, and retention of new staff and will supervise the Attendant Counselor position at Fircrest.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing a designated living area on a 24-hour per day, seven days a week basis. Supervises all Attendant Counselors assigned to the living area. Ensure Attendant Counselors train, assist, care for, and participate with Residential Habilitation Center (RHC) clients being served on or off campus, following the clients to locations where training and activities most appropriately occur.

Some of what you'll do:
- As a supervisor, initiates, and/or participates in the hiring, training, counseling, corrective action, and evaluation progress of subordinate staff.
- Investigate and takes appropriate action on subordinate staff and IR POC’s processes subordinate employee personnel actions and accident reports.
- Coordinates activities of the living area, including subordinate personnel duly assignments and coordinates individual and group activities of the residents.
- Responsible for maintaining the living unit, residents, staff and unit records.
- Observes and evaluates work performance of Attendant Counselors.
- Works other shifts including weekends on a routine basis to ensure uniform services and performances.
- Provides clear direction to subordinate staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we're looking for:
- Knowledge of supervision principles, behavior support techniques, and skill acquisition strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team, problem-solve, and adapt to different stakeholder perspectives.
- Strong communication skills, including reading, writing, and verbal discourse, in compliance with agency policies and regulations.
- Experience in developing client plans, setting goals, ensuring implementation, and modeling high standards of support.
- Proficiency in conducting training, creating schedules, and maintaining staff training records to meet federal requirements.
- Ability to use electronic health records for client care and documentation.
Who should apply?
Professionals who meet one of the following criteria:
- High school graduation or GED and four years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- High school graduation or GED and four years of experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher-level state class
- Meets professional qualifications for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP)* and one year of experience working directly with persons with intellectual disabilities.
*NOTE: The requirements for a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) as included in the Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 42, Subpart D, Section 483.430, are as follows:
- A doctor of medicine or osteopathy;
- A registered nurse;
- OR have at least a Bachelor's degree in any of the following:
- Occupational Therapy,
- Physical Therapy,
- Psychology,
- Social Work, from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education,
- Speech,
- Audiology,
- Recreation and related fields, or
- The Human Services (as defined at 438.430 (b) (5) (x)), includes but is not limited to sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, and psychology
Additional information:
- Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
- King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
