Mental Health Technician 3

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals facing psychiatric challenges? Western State Hospital is hiring for a Mental Health Technician 3 (MHT3) to join our team working in a Civil Center ward.


As an MHT3, you'll work closely with a team of healthcare professionals to deliver nursing care and behavioral support to patients experiencing acute psychiatric and physical illnesses, including those with high-risk behaviors. Guided by our mission, vision, and the Recovery Model, your work will empower patients, foster hope, and contribute to a positive therapeutic environment.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.  


Some of what you'll do

  • Support safety and provide direct nursing care, including but not limited to, monitoring and therapeutically responding to patient’s behavior and reporting observations to RN staff.
  • Record vital signs, eating habits, behaviors, and responses to therapeutic interventions with precision and accuracy.
  • Communicate information to the RN2 regarding changes of condition and clinical information.
  • Deliver care per treatment plan.
  • Guide, orient, and support new staff members in understanding ward operations and administrative tasks.
  • Maintain ward supplies are at proper stock levels.  In charge of ordering and organizing items.

  • Engage patients during Active Treatment

       


What we're looking for

  • Knowledge of Behavioral Health/Recovery principles.
  • Ability to use de-escalation skills.
  • A genuine ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and work effectively with team members.
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend (through oral and written forms of communication).
  • Staff in this position must be competent in basic computer skills, including word processing and navigating a web browser in order to utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR). 


Who should apply?
Professionals with registration as a Nursing Assistant Registration (NAR) or Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) in Washington State is required
AND
Three years of experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
AND
A High School Diploma or GED.
