Job Highlights


Are you seeking the opportunity to share your Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator experience? If so, this is the job for you. In this Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 4 Pension/Social Security Offset position, you will demonstrate your skills while mentoring Pension Benefits Specialists and determining the appropriate action toward adjusting a claimant’s time loss compensation rate by administering the provisions of RCW 51.32.220 and 51.32.225, which govern the department’s ability to offset time loss benefits when a worker receives benefits from both L&I and the Social Security Administration. 


In this role you will administer title 51 to adjudicate and resolve issues specific to Social Security Offset (SSO), including protests, for self-insured worker’s compensation claims and act as a resource to internal and external customers regarding SSO outcomes and issues.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Review and evaluate worker’s compensation claims from a social security disability benefit standpoint.
  • Determine which offset law is applicable and the appropriate date any reduction in benefits is effective. 
  • Provide quality assurance reviews to ensure appropriate benefits are paid to recipients in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Advise injured workers, attorneys, employers and legislative officials concerning the coordination of Social Security benefits and workers’ compensation.
  • Act as department’s liaison with the Social Security Administration.
  • Determine whether workers are receiving the correct full entitlement based on RCW 51.08.178, RCW51.32.220, and the worker’s marital and dependent status.
  • Assist and educate WCAs with technical issues related to the use of LINIIS procedures related to pension benefits and Social Security offset.

Required:

  • Successful completion of the Department of Labor and Industries Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program.

And

  • One year of experience as a Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 3.

Or

  • Bachelor’s degree

And

  • Three years of experience in adjudicating workers’ or crime victims’ compensation insurance claims or adjudication of time loss payments.

Or

  • Equivalent education/experience.


Desired: 

  • Prior experience with calculation of benefits based on specific criteria. Ability to work with a diversified group of individuals. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

For this position, telework is dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station for this position is Tumwater, Washington.
