About The House of Representatives:
The House of Representatives (House) comprises half of the Washington State Legislature and is made of 98 members, elected to serve two-year terms representing 49 legislative districts. The House employs 250 full-time year-round staff and 100 temporary session staff and interns. The Legislature meets annually beginning on the second Monday in January in the Capitol Building in Olympia. Regular legislative sessions take place January through March in even-numbered years and January through April in odd-numbered years. Special legislative sessions occur as needed.
Our workplace is on the beautiful Capitol Campus in Olympia. The 486-acre campus includes the Legislative Building and other historic structures, as well as popular parks and trails with views of Capitol Lake, Budd Inlet, and the Olympic Mountains.

Position Profile:
The Washington State House of Representatives is seeking experienced candidates for a line cook to assist the Chef with cafeteria operations. The cafeteria offers breakfast and lunch as a standard during the week. Dinners and weekend service are sometimes required. This position can lead to a recurring annual position during subsequent legislative sessions.
How You’ll Be Expected to Contribute:
- Preparing meals and food to meet the specifications of guests in a timely manner
- Properly measuring kitchen ingredients and food portions
- Adhere to set standards, procedures, department rules and sanitation requirements
- Using kitchen knives and equipment such as grills, ovens, steamers in food preparation
- Maintain proper labeling of food, and adhering to first in first out for all products
- Ensuring proper food temperatures when cooking and cooling foods
- Keeping the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized
- Participating in opening and closing the kitchen
- Help oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring that all food is prepared to the highest quality standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area at all times
- May perform other related duties as required.
The Successful Candidate Will Meet These Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and will have extensive experience cooking food to order
- Prior experience making from scratch entrees, sides, sandwiches, salads, and soups
- Knowledge of culinary techniques
- Passion for hospitality with a focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Two years of experience cooking in a professional kitchen
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Possession of a Food Workers Card from the Thurston County Department of Health or other county public health department before the first day of work.
Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions:
This position requires an onsite/in-person presence and must be able to work 40 hours per week, which may include evening, weekends, and holidays. This is a temporary position anticipated to begin ASAP and end April 30, 2025. The end date may be extended if the legislative session is extended. This position is not eligible for benefits.
